An L-bracket is described by four numbers: the length of each leg, the width, the thickness of the steel, and the size of the holes. The long leg goes against the wall or post, the short leg goes under or behind what it holds, the width and thickness decide how stiff it is, and the hole size decides which screws fit. BINKIN’s bracket is 2.5 inches by 0.625 inch, 1 inch wide, 0.06 inch thick, with a 2-inch slot and 3/16-inch holes.

The four measurements
- Leg lengths
- Measured on the outside of the bend, written long leg × short leg (BINKIN: 2.5″ × 0.625″). Equal legs are common on corner braces; unequal legs are common on brackets that mount to a wall.
- Width
- Across the bracket (BINKIN: 1″). Wider is stiffer and has room for more holes.
- Thickness
- The steel itself, sometimes given as a gauge, where a smaller gauge number means thicker steel. BINKIN is 0.06″, about 16 gauge.
- Holes
- Their diameter decides the screw size (BINKIN: 3/16″, for #8 and smaller). A slot adds adjustment: BINKIN’s is 2″ long.
How to pick a size
- Start with where it mountsThe long leg needs room on the wall, post or frame for its screws. For a slotted bracket, its length also sets how far you can adjust.
- Then what it holdsA short leg stays out of sight under or behind the thing it holds. A long leg reaches further under it.
- Match the holes to your screwsPick a hole size that takes the screw your wall or wood needs (see which screws to use).
- Match the finish to the placeGalvanized steel resists rust for garages, sheds and fences; rust resistant is not rust proof, so somewhere constantly wet will shorten its life.
- Size up for heavy loads, or use structural hardwareSmall brackets are light-duty. For heavy or structural loads, use load-rated structural connectors.
Need more reach?
Two BINKIN brackets can be joined through their slots with a #8-32 machine screw, washer and nut, and slid to the length you need before you tighten it.

Questions people ask
How are L-brackets measured?
By the length of each leg (measured on the outside of the bend), the width, the thickness of the steel and the hole size. BINKIN’s is 2.5 × 0.625 inches, 1 inch wide, 0.06 inch thick, with 3/16-inch holes.
What gauge is a BINKIN bracket?
The steel is 0.06 inch thick, about 16 gauge, and galvanized.
What does the slot length mean?
It is how far the bracket can slide after the first screw is in. BINKIN’s slot is 2 inches, which gives nearly 2 inches of adjustment.
Do you make other sizes?
BINKIN sells one size of bracket today, in packs of 8, 24, 50 and 100. Retailers and bulk buyers can ask about wholesale.
